Why I crop before I shoot
Deciding the ratio first changes every choice after it.
Most crops happen in the edit, by accident. I pick the ratio on the first call, before casting, because it decides where the light goes.
Four ratios, four briefs
Wide is for place. 4:5 is for a person. Square is for an object. Vertical is for a phone in someone’s hand.
